Biphasic Sleep: Day 4

September 3, 2009

It seems as though the greatest threat to the biphasic sleep schedule, is the conflicts that arise with how the 'normal' world functions. As I read through other people's writings and experiments, almost all express how good they feel and how much they like the new schedule. The only ones that stop the sleeping schedule and revert back to monophasic sleep always cite that it's the conflict with social events that is the main reason for stopping.

Tonight I had my first conflict, a soccer game, which required me to push back my nap by two hours. I was hoping to avoid these deviations from the schedule, but I really wanted to go! The 'real world' has a lot to do with why I chose to have my standard nap time at 8:00pm. With this time, I should be able to move that nap back a few hours if needed without affecting my cognitive functions too much! I don't want to do it earlier, so that it won't affect weekend activities (I could take a nap at 2:00pm or 3:00pm since I am self employed, but this would become an issue on weekends when I like to utilize the entire day). So far everything seems fine, in fact I had a really good nap, and I even woke up a couple of minutes before my alarm went off. I feel really quite refreshed, this is probably the best nap I have had so far. Tomorrow I will try to get back to the 8:00 nap time, but being a Friday, I can foresee that my naps may be pushed back due to weekend events. Hopefully this doesn't cause me too much issue.
